About El Arbol
About El Arbol
In 2016, Project Origin founder Saša Šestić teamed up with producer Claudia Lovo and several professionals to purchase Finca El Árbol. The name, meaning ‘the tree’, was inspired by the giant tree that dominates the middle of the farm. The goal at this farm is to increase bio-diversity and become a self-sustaining environment that will in turn produce high quality specialty coffee. Many years of work have gone into this farm and today there is a team of 14 full-time workers that care for El Árbol’s coffee trees and its mini ecosystem. They produce food at the farm for the workers to eat, and they have geese, chickens and a cow named Lola. Workers have on-site living quarters and are provided with tutoring in farm management and coffee processing as well as English and other classes by local tutors. El Árbol strives to model a farm that looks beyond just quality of coffee, and prioritises the earth, the community and the coffee produced in equal measure.
